How the math works
Every rectangle's area is its length times its width, and the total is the sum. The example above is a 12 by 10 room (120 sq ft), an 8 by 6 closet (48) and a 5 by 4 nook (20): 188 square feet in all.
For an L-shaped room, split it into two rectangles that do not overlap, measure each one, and add them here as Area 1 and Area 2. Leave an area at zero if you do not need it.
